Surfboard salute to Zander

“I WANT TO LIVE like Zander and I want to surf like Zander.”

Those words from little five-year-old Josiah Rhynd were symbolic of the indelible mark the late Zander Venezia left behind.

The 16-year-old pro junior surfer, who touched the lives of many within the surfing fraternity and beyond during his short life, was remembered with a “paddle out” at the Drill Hall Beach on Friday.

Outfitted in white T-shirts with the letter Z for Zander at the front and #livelikeZander on the back and armed with surfboards and flowers, scores of loved ones lined the shore to say their final goodbyes. (RG)
