DAME MAIZIE BARKER-WELCH celebrated her 90th birthday at an afternoon of tea with her ‘girls’ from St Gabriel’s School where she taught for 15 years.
The grande dame, dressed in a brown silk dress and matching wide-brimmed hat, made a fashionable entrance to the tea party at Radisson Aquatica Resort last week Saturday, accompanied by her daughters Yolande Phillips and Sonja Welch, permanent secretary in the Prime Minister’s office.
“I feel really honoured that the St Gabriel’s School alumni have never left me out of anything they are doing. It brings back pleasant memories,” Dame Maizie remarked to Social Scene.
In turn, the former St Gabriel’s students said it was an honour for the members of St Garbriel’s Past Scholars and Friends Association to include their former teacher in their activities and to host her on the milestone occasion. (GC)
