Canadian visitor facing drug charges

MEMBERS OF THE Drug Squad have charged a Canadian visitor in connection with the seizure of 13 kilogrammes of cannabis, with an estimated street value of BDS$104 000.

She is Mellissa McMillan, 37 years. McMillan was charged with possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply cannabis, trafficking of cannabis and importation of cannabis. 

McMillan arrived at the Grantley Adams International Airport, from Canada on Wednesday, September 20. A subsequent search of her suitcase by Customs Officers, revealed twenty-two vacuum-sealed packages each containing cannabis. The police were informed and McMillan was subsequently arrested and charged for the offences. 

McMillan appeared before Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch in the District ‘C’ Court on Thursday, September 21, where she pleaded guilty to all of the offences. 

She was remanded to prison and will reappear in court on Monday, September 25 for sentencing. (PR)
