Man held with ten pounds of cannabis

MEMBERS OF THE Drug Squad have arrested and charged a Barbadian with United States of America residency in connection with the seizure of ten pounds of cannabis with an estimated street value of $40 000.

He is 34-year-old Damien Tobias Bend. He was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply cannabis, trafficking of cannabis and importation of cannabis.

Bend arrived at the Grantley Adams International Airport on Friday, September 22. Having cleared Immigration, he proceeded to Customs, where a subsequent search of his suitcase, revealed ten black vacuum-sealed packages each containing cannabis, concealed amongst clothing. The police were informed and Bend was subsequently arrested and charged for the offences. 

Bend appeared before Magistrate Wayne Clarke in the District ‘A’ Magistrates court on Saturday, September 23.

He was granted bail at the sum of $40 000, with one surety, and will reappear in the District ‘B’ Magistrates Court on September 26. (PR)
