Even though Queen’s College continues to be a place of strong academic tradition, principal Dr David Browne said the school has embarked on a programme to ensure students also have the soft skills necessary to complement the academics.
Speaking at the joint assembly held as part of the week of activities organised by the Queen’s College Association (QCA) yesterday, Browne said when things go wrong in society, schools are called on to do more to prepare students to be productive citizens.
He said QC had answered the call of those concerned about social deviance in society through introduction of the Caribbean Ideal Persons Concept.
Browne called on students, particularly those in their senior years, to give back to their alma mater when they left school by joining the QCA. He said the group was made up of a dedicated but ageing group of old scholars and needed some young blood.
Featured speaker and alumnus, Supreme Court Registrar Barbara Cooke-Alleyne, spoke to the students on Achieving Excellence. She urged them to be the pilot of their lives and not a passenger. (LK)
