JUNIOR BADMINTON has been left in shambles. All three national coaches, including head coach Shakeira Waithe, have quit the junior programme amidst charges of disrespect from the Barbados Badminton Association executive stemming from a disciplinary issue involving a player and parent.

Waithe confirmed the news in an exclusive interview with NATION SPORT nearly two months after she, Caroline Vaughn and D’Andre Thorpe all resigned upon returning from August’s Caribbean Championships in Trinidad.

As a result, the programme has been left in the hands of senior national players Corey Fanus, Dakeil Thorpe, Tamisha Williams, Monyata Riviera and Bradley Pilgrim – none of whom are certified coaches.

The issue came to a head after Vaughn was told she couldn’t coach at the junior Pan American Games in Toronto reportedly after a verbal exchange between her and junior player Shomari Smith and his mother Sandra Smith. (JM)
