Major changes are coming to the cultural landscape in Barbados.

They are not likely to happen today or tomorrow but if those who participated in the Government-funded mapping exercise Creative Truth To Power have their way, organisations such as the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) will be no more.

The report from the exercise stated: “There should be a commitment to create a single creative and cultural development agency. It is clear that all stakeholders acknowledge the current ‘multiple agencies’ state of affairs should not carry on.

“Therefore this agency would replace the existing ones [which would be wound up]. And it should not be an aggregation or merger of existing agencies, programmes, or staff. It needs to start fresh with staff having the requisite expertise in the multiple areas of creative and cultural competence.” (TG)
