Sporting history in Barbados unfolded on Sunday night and early Monday morning when road players Sheldene Walrond and Julian “Michael Jackson” White won brand new Kia Rio motor cars after being crowned the new Barbados Public Workers’ Cooperative Credit Union’s Monarchs of the Court.
No.2 seed Walrond triumphed over defending champion Kim Holder in a scintillating women’s final 20-22, 21-19, 24-22 at the Big Rock Arena, alongside the Spring Garden Highway to become the first woman to win a car in the popular indigenous game.

Last year, Griffith, 33, who is the No.1 ranked player in the sport, created history by becoming the first Barbadian sportsman to win a car in an individual competition.
