Minister of Education Ronald Jones is “burdened” because a key tool in learning is not being widely used in schools.
Speaking at the official launch of the implementation of School Teacher Effectiveness Plans (STEPS) in eight project schools at Erdiston Teachers’ Training College yesterday, he lamented the fact that technology was not being used effectively in the delivery of education.
“Policymakers say, ‘Okay, we’re going to create all of these things, we’re going to give you a good classroom, good technology and all of that’, but yet we fear. We have to remove the fears and imbed ourselves in the use, ’cause that’s what children are using now. We’re still testing students by paper tests that you might take three weeks to correct. Today’s child does not exist in that environment. The child wants to see ‘what is the result of the work that I’ve done’ now.
“So we have to embrace, very quickly, the technology as part of the assessment exercise, as part of the normal routine teaching exercise in our schools,” he urged. (YB)
