Belle back at max

The Belle Pumping Station is back to its full capacity of 13 million gallons per day, and this should be a good sign for the thousands who suffered water outages across the island over the weekend.

Late last night, rapid response and communications manager at the Barbados Water Authority, Joy-Ann Haigh, relayed information given by director of engineering Charles Leacock, which indicated that two two-million-gallon pumps were installed at The Belle on Friday and Sunday.

Capacity had dropped to nine million gallons and affected the capacities at pumping stations servicing parts of Christ Church, St Michael, St James, St Andrew and St Thomas where customers reported outages.

The issues with the pumps were compounded by loss of electrical power in some of those same areas, Haigh said. (YB)
