The fear of a suspected scabies outbreak, forced the closure of Court No. 1 in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court yesterday as clean-up experts moved in to sanitise the courtroom.
It was reported that a prisoner, who appeared Wednesday, was infested with the mite.
As a result of the mite issue, the court was closed to allow for an industrial cleaning along with the holding cells of the Central Police Station, where the prisoner was housed before entering the court.
Mint Condition Industrial Services Ltd undertook the cleaning of the courtroom, while Pilot Management Services (B’dos) Ltd., did the holding cells.
None of the prisoners who came down from HMP Dodds was able to enter court No. 1, and remained on the prison bus, while those who were expected to appear in the Supreme Court made their appearances.
However, the sitting of Criminal Court No.1 was switched to the Bridgetown Traffic Court after its Magistrate Graveney Bannister completed his work around mid-morning.
The court was expected to resume operations today. (RA)
