Farmers cry ‘fowl’

If Barbadians find themselves paying more for meat this Christmas, they should blame the supermarkets, not farmers.

That assertion has come from president of the Barbados Egg and Poultry Producers Association, Stephen Layne, who has accused supermarkets of marking up poultry products by more than 30 per cent.

Layne told the WEEKEND NATION that poultry farmers were exempt from most of the costs associated with the recent 400 per cent hike in the National Social Responsibility Levy (NSRL).

He said this meant poultry prices had not been affected and were stable for some while. (RB)
