Tropical Storm Rina, the 17 storm of the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season, formed over the open Atlantic to the east of Bermuda late Monday.
The Miami based National Hurricane Centre says at 11 a.m., Rina was located near latitude 32.4 North, longitude 49.3 West.
Rina is moving toward the north near 15 mph (24 km/h) and this general motion accompanied by an increase in forward speed is expected through Tuesday night and an even faster motion toward the north-northeast is forecast to occur by Wednesday night.
Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts and some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours.
However, at this time, Rina is not a threat to land.
Meanwhile, a trough over the central Caribbean is expected to continue across the region for the next few days, while an area of low pressure is expected to influence weather across Jamaica later this week.
The Meteorological Service in Jamaica says isolated showers are expected across some sections of southern parishes, on Tuesday afternoon. (CMC)
