Tragic end to lime

A day at the beach ended tragically for a 16-year-old yesterday after he and his friends decided to take a trip to Port Ferdinand beach in St Peter.

Reports are that after a cricket match at the nearby Coleridge and Parry School was called off due to rain, Alexandra student Savio Fergusson, who is a member of his school’s cricket team, decided to head to a lime at the beach.

According to sources close to the matter, the boys were all swimming and when some of them decided they had had enough, they exited the water, leaving Fergusson, who was not ready to leave, behind.

Tragically, by the time they returned to find him, his body was discovered floating sometime around 3:05 p.m.

Police public relations officer, Acting Inspector Roland Cobbler, said the boy was pulled from the water, CPR administered and the ambulance was summoned. Fergusson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Several onlookers converged on the scene as family members – including mum Antonala Williams, Alexandra deputy principal June Browne and other school officials – arrived. Williams wailed as she tightly hugged her son’s body.

Physical education teacher Jason Worrell described the fast bowler, who was also involved in athletics, as dynamic.

“Last time I saw him was when he left school on Friday. It’s not easy seeing one of your students on the ground dead,” Worrell added. (TG)
