Changes ‘long overdue’

A STEP IN THE right direction.

That is how Magistrate Graveney Bannister is seeing the Road Traffic Amendment Bill that was introduced and debated in the House of Assembly on Tuesday.

Minister of Transport and Works Michael Lashley proposed changes which included increased fines for motorists who park in spaces designated for the disabled; possible imprisonment for uninsured motorists involved in accidents that result in injury; and a fine of $1 000 for those guilty of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Bannister said while he had not seen the bill, he thought it was long overdue as Barbados was behind on some legislation. (RA)
