Members of the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) are unhappy with its executive because funds were not drawn down from the union’s strike fund when members were docked their pay for taking part in a protest march earlier this year.
That controversy looms large with the BSTU today, as it tries to settle following several resignations a fortnight ago.
Almost 200 teachers lost some of their wages for being away from the classroom to take part in the Respect For Teachers protest on April 5, when scores of placard-bearing members walked from Queen’s Park to the office of the Chief Personnel Officer on Culloden Road, St Michael.
“A lot of the members believe they did the right thing when they marched, but they were docked their pay, in some instances for the day, or for the hours they were not at work, and haven’t been compensated for it up to now. (BA)
