A Christ Church shopkeeper is this morning in stable condition after he was shot during an apparent burglary around 4 a.m.

Sixty-two-year-old Coaston Payne, the proprietor of Payne’s Bar and Grocery in Kendal Hill, was at home when he encountered a lone gunman who had broken into his residence. The shop is attached to Payne’s home.

Police public relations officer Acting Inspector Roland Cobbler said the assailant fired a shot at Payne during the confrontation and then fled.

He reported that Payne received a gunshot injury to his right shoulder and was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by private vehicle.

Cobbler has urged anyone with information to contact the police hotline at 211 or the Oistins police station at 418-2612 or 418-2608. (SDB Media)
