Flood warning in effect until 8 p.m.

Barbados is under a flood warning until 8 p.m. today.

The Barbados Meteorological Services said the combination of a trough system and the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone has been generating cloudy to overcast skies, rain, pockets of moderate to heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms across Barbados throughout the day.

Fluctuations in the intensity of the showers and rain along with isolated thunderstorms are expected to persist for at least the next few hours.

Rainfall accumulations of two to three inches (50 to 75 mm) have already been recorded across some sections of the island and further accumulations of similar amounts are likely as the evening progresses.

The warning may be extended if conditions warrant.

Residents in flood-prone areas should remain on the alert and take the necessary precautions.

A flood warning means that flooding is already occurring or is imminent. (PR/NB)
