Rain has delayed the start of the Rihanna Drive renaming ceremony at Westbury Road, St Michael.
The ceremony was scheduled to start at 3 p.m. but the rain started this morning just as the 51st Anniversary of Independence Parade was concluding.
Although it abated periodically, there has been a steady downpour for most of the day across Barbados.
A NATION team on the ground reported neither Prime Minister Freundel Stuart nor the woman of the hour, Robin “Rihanna” Fenty, had arrived. Other dignitaries, including ministers of government and the opposition have already gathered under the six tents.
On the outskirts, people braved the showers to get a glimpse of those arriving.
Among the items on the programme include the singing of the National Anthem by NIFCA gold medal winner Kareem Agard, a performance by Richard Stoute Teen Talent winner Trinity Clarke, a skit by Westbury primary School and entertainer Nikita.
Stuart and Rihanna are also scheduled to give remarks and a block party will be held for residents, featuring DJ Puffy and Just Jay. (SAT)
