Businessman Anderson Cherry is asking Government to waive the $25 tipping fee so he can take recyclable materials to the Sustainable Barbados Recycling Centre (SBRC).
His call comes after his company, Project Recycle Limited, which operated at Lower Estate, St George, went up in smoke on Friday.Â
For months residents in surrounding neighbourhoods had been complaining about a stench permeating from the quarry.
 A number of community meetings were held with residents and health officials and Cherry was given six months to shut down the operation and remove all the recyclables from the area.
However, after a series of fires which residents said caused more discomfort and forced nearby businesses to close due to the smell, the Ministry of Health reduced that time to four weeks.
Now Cherry, who said he was sorry for the inconvenience to residents, is adamant he does not want the material to go back to the landfill and is questioning where he will put all of it. (TG)
