Members of the Drug Squad have arrested and charged a former Barbados Defence Force (BDF) Soldier with a number of drug related offences allegedly committed yesterday at Belle Road, My Lords Hill, St Michael.

He is 35-year-old Ovid Comienskey Alleyne, of Belle Road #1, My Lords Hill, St Michael.

Alleyne was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis, trafficking of cannabis, possession of cannabis with intent to supply, and cultivation of cannabis.

Yesterday, members of the Drug Squad executed a warrant at the residence occupied by Alleyne. During the search a quantity of loose cannabis was discovered, along with 14 cannabis plants − the tallest being 6 feet in height − being cultivated in his yard. He was arrested and subsequently charged for the offences.

Alleyne appeared before Magistrate Douglas Fredrick in the District ‘A’ Magistrates court yesterday. He pleaded guilty to the offences and was remanded to prison pending sentencing.

The total weight of the cannabis was 4.5 kilogrammes, with an estimated street value of $18 000. (PR)
