Japan’s Judo Ambassador to Barbados, Teruhiko Shinada, has reminded young athletes that losing was just as important as winning to their progress in the sport.
“To win is not the only important thing. How to lose is also important,” he said.
“We like to win, but we sometimes have to lose. The important thing is how to lose in a good manner. Losing in a good and decent manner is most important.”
Shinada was speaking at a presentation ceremony for 19 judokas of the
St Cyprian’s Boys’ School Judo Club at the school on Monday evening.
Interim president of St Cyprian’s Boys’ School Judo Club, Tony Latchman, said the school was the first to benefit from the judo federation’s initiative of helping set up school club three years ago and he believes it has grown tremendously.
He added that he was hoping for it to spread to all the schools. (RG)
