THE Learning Centre captured the inaugural Road Tennis Special Student Tournament with great command when the finals climaxed yesterday at the National Sports Council’s courts.

The Learning Centre won the team tournament 3-0 and then took the other two irrelevant games, sharing pigs at 21-4 and 21-6 to pocket $1 000, leaving runners-up Ann Hill to hold $500 and a trophy. The Derrick Smith Vocational School earned $300 and a trophy.

The champions also won the individual boys’ crown with Kemael Butcher carving up Remarco Griffith with a pig, 21-6. Derrick Smith earned some silverware with southpaw Rosie Murray stopping Arianna Husbands of Ann Hill 21-12 in the girls’ finals.

Another female southpaw also featured in the teams’ finals with Talibah Davis storming from 3-5 to defeat Husbands 21-10 to set the Learning Centre on the way.

D’Angelo Wilkinson-Jones then stamped the Learning Centre’s authority on the contest by handing Keshawn Elliott a sow, 21-8. After a scare with the scores locked from 14 up to 18, the tall dreadlocked Ajani Blackman then sealed the victory by edging Joshua Martelly 21-18. (KB)
