After you, Sir

Sir Courtney Blackman was appointed Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados in 1972, becoming the world’s youngest Central Bank Governor at age 39.

He endured much criticism for his role in the building of the elaborate Central Bank complex (now the Tom Adams Financial Centre), but yesterday he was praised for his vision that has given Barbados a financial institution which has put Barbados on the map.

The retired Governor’s 15-year stint guiding the direction of the Bank and the associated facilities of the Frank Collymore Hall and the Grande Salle were recognised yesterday when the Grande Salle was renamed the Courtney Blackman Grande Salle in an impressive ceremony. (GC)
