‘Only illness’ will keep Agard from polls

Outspoken Independent Member of Parliament Dr Maria Agard may be going to the polls as a candidate in the next general election.

Agard, who represents Christ Church West, has kept her next political move close to her chest for more than a year, but her attorney, Lynette Eastmond, says Agard is close to a decision about her future.

“Maria Agard is giving serious consideration to contesting the next general election,” Eastmond told the SUNDAY SUN.

“The only issue which might prevent her from doing so is her health,” she added.

Eastmond was unable to say whether Agard, a former Barbados Labour Party (BLP) candidate, would run as an Independent or join with one of the country’s two newest political parties, the United Progressive Party or Solutions Barbados.

“She did not say,” Eastmond said in response to that query.

The Sunday Sun was unsuccessful in reaching Agard for a comment. (BA)
