Psychics rebuked

Some members of the clergy have frowned on the development that sees an increasing number of people seeking psychics and paying thousands of dollars to them to have problems resolved.

Roman Catholic priest Father Clement Paul said something was drastically wrong if Barbadians went to someone to have their palms read to determine their future.

“If the teachings of the psychics are a manipulation of the teachings of God, then I would have to say that it’s not of God. If we believe Psalm 23, then there is no need for any psychic. If we believe that though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we should fear no evil, there would be no need for them.”

Pointing out that the gift of prophecy was freely received and should be freely given, Paul said: “When they go to the psychics, there is a charge. We as priests studied this practice in theology and when people dabble in the esoteric, it is a manipulation of all kinds of things.”

Paul said while he respected the mediums, since some of them might be offering genuine service, there was no need for them since God’s love was free and His grace freely given. (JB)
