Scared stiff

It was high drama in Brittons Hill, St Michael, around 10 p.m. on Saturday as at least three armed men robbed a food vendor and his customers.

The harrowing event left David Benn, 50, shaken, and one of his customers, family friend David Gill, a former Member of Parliament, advising Barbadians to walk with “ransom money” every time they leave their homes.

Benn told the DAILY NATION yesterday the incident was so traumatic, he was considering whether to continue selling food from outside his home, something he had been doing since 1995.

“I sell every Friday and Saturday; people call me the ‘pigtail boss’. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before. I have never had any sort of violence here, but now I’m scared. When I catch myself, I will decide if I will keep selling. When there’s a man with a gun pointing at your back, your life flashes before your eyes,” he said. (CA)
