14 injured in accident

Police are investigating a four-vehicle accident which occurred around 2:40 p.m. today along John Beckles Drive, St Michael.

It involved two cars, a route taxi and a fire truck and left 14 people injured. They were the route taxi driver, his conductor and 12 passengers.

One car was driven by Sharon Waterman, 49, of Martins Bay, St John. She was accompanied by her 14-year-old daughter. The other car was driven by Kevin Roach, 31, of Mellow Hills, St Joseph.

The fire truck was driven by 26-year-old fire officer Shamon Boyce of Boscobelle, St Peter and he was accompanied by three other firemen.

The route taxi was driven by 23-year-old Lester Isidore of Lowther’s Hill, St Patrick’s, Christ Church. He complained of pain to his back while his conductor Jamal Stuart, 34, of Grazettes, St Michael reported pain to his left hand and left side.

The 12 passengers, who ranged in age from ten to 60 years, complained of pains to the back, neck, head, and chest.

The injured people were treated at the scene by Dr Shantel Young-Boyce, and a team of two doctors and three nurses from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. 

Stuart and four female passengers were transported to the QEH by ambulance. Three ambulances responded to the scene along with one fire tender and four fire officers under the command of Acting Deputy Chief Fire Officer Errol Gaskin. (PR/NB)
