New Govt ‘needed’

A new government and an approved National Recovery Plan is just what Barbados needs.

That’s the view of president of the Barbados Private Sector Association, Charles Herbert as he reflected on the national march of protest against the 400 per cent increase in the National Social Responsibility Levy (NSRL) which was held on July 24.

Herbert said that although the march had brought the private sector and the trade unions together as unlikely allies and had “shocked politicians”, it had achieved little else.

That’s why he believes a new government and an approved National Recovery Plan, could change all that.

“It’s hard to know if a plan approved on the eve of an election is going to be a plan that will be followed for very long anyway. I think we need a government that has the mandate to make this plan, and implement it.” (BA)
