Big issues for BHTA

The problematic South Coast sewage issue as well as efforts to enhance the “welcome” at the airport are two front-burner issues for the Barbados Hotel & Tourism Association (BHTA) this year.

Roseanne Myers, president of the BHTA, has highlighted these amongst others things as areas of focus for the association in 2018.

The South Coast sewage problems have been affecting householders, commercial operations and even pedestrians using the area between Hastings and Worthing for an extended period. Despite repeated efforts by the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) to find a permanent solution, this has proven difficult.

“The provision of proper sewage treatment for waste would have received a failing grade,” said Myers, promising to work with the BWA to find a solution.

“We continue to be deeply concerned [about] those Barbadians, visitors and members who have been adversely affected so far for the season,” she added. (ES)
