It was a showcase of the next generation of cricketing talent when the first match in the second annual George Linton Memorial Primary School All-Stars Cricket Series was played in Queen’s Park last Friday.

Batting first, Sanchez Reid-Haynes’ XI grafted their way to 137 for nine in 30 overs. Player Of The Match David Callender, a left-handed, middle-order batsman from Bayleys, topscored with 27, including two sixes and one four. Jakeem Pollard of Reynold Weekes contributed an aggressive 16.

In response, the side led by Bayleys’ captain Shaquan Belle were bowled out for 115 in the 29th over, losing by 22 runs.

Double centurion from the Herman Griffith Tournament, Micah Greenidge of Reynold Weekes, top-scored with 17 at the top of the order. Kevion Newton of Wesley Hall and Jaheil Padmore of St Christopher made 15 and ten, respectively. Pacer Christian Gill of Milton Lynch was impressive, taking three for ten runs off four overs.

The matches, which feature the best in talent from the various primary schools are held to honour the legacy of the late youth cricket coach and administrator George Linton and are sponsored by Shopsmart and Guardian General.

Organiser Michael Lucas indicated that the other two matches in the series would be held after this year’s Barbados Secondary Schools Entrance Examination. (EZS)
