Treasury workers fall ill

Staff at the Treasury Building in Bridgetown walked off the job yesterday complaining of respiratory problems.

They said it was as a result of mould and a pungent scent emanating from the area occupied by the Accountant General’s Office.

However, staff at the Barbados Revenue Authority remained unaffected and their operations continued without disruption. 

Acting accountant Juanita Cordle told the MIDWEEK NATION when they entered the first floor space, some people experienced a dizzy feeling, coupled with nausea.

“Some persons have been coughing and lost their voice. It is a lot of chest tightness and respiratory issues. Most persons who would have had sick leave over the last couple of weeks would have had respiratory tract infections,” she said.  (RA)
