‘Trust’ way

The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) should not be the judge and jury when it comes to derelict properties around the island.

So says the man who is fresh from saving Roland Edwards’ Speightstown, St Peter home, attorney Douglas Trotman.

He wants to see a separate committee established by law to investigate whether buildings earmarked for demolition were actual health hazards or could be restored and then sold.

The once two-storeyed, coral stone 17th/18th-century home of the man who composed the music of the National Anthem had been earmarked for demolition from as far back as 2003, when it was first added to the EPD’s list of derelict buildings. (HLE)
