Blue end Green’s reign

Now that didn’t last too long.

It was really one and done for Green house as Blue ended their short reign by winning Lawrence T. Gay’s inter-house sports yesterday at the National Stadium.

With Kijana Johnson and Onari Grenville leading the charge, Blue powered to the top with 333 points – 21 more than 2016 winners Red house (312).

Defending champions Green amassed 240 points while Yellow had 233.

Johnson was crowned the victrix ludorum, having topped the under-13 division with 39 points by copping gold in the 600 metres and placing second in the 400. She then had a pair of third-place showings in the 100 and 200 metres for good measure.

Grenville was even more dominant though, taking the boys’ equivalent in that same age group following victories in the 200, 400 and 800 metres.

And they weren’t the only division champs that Blue accounted for as Hannah Waithe finished with 23 points to win the under-9 title.

Yellow took the other under-9 crown via the efforts of Amari Collymore, who had 36 points. Takijah Lowe gave Yellow something further to shout about when she took top honours in the under-7 category.

Green got some measure of consolation when Raj Phillips won the under-7 boys division with 24 points.

Red accounted for both under-11 champions as Toccara Griffith and Jaden Smith amassed 31 points apiece. (JM)
