Red Caps at the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) say they are fed up and tired of years of feeling mistreated.
A group of more than 40 red caps met yesterday morning at the offices of Platinum Services at the airport and vented about what they described as gross disrespect from the airport’s management.
The red caps, or porters as they’re officially known, said they were required to pay on average $20 a day to rent the trolleys from GAIA, which worked out to around $250 000 a year.
To make matters worse, they said, they only made $2 for every bag they transported.
They charged that despite the airport raking in this money from the 45 porters, management had not provided them with amenities such as a lunch room, lockers or even the most basic sanitary environment. (AD)
