Brittons Hill has got off to quite the start. Former national forward Henderson Richards, Travis Coppin and Terrance Coppin all had braces to lead Brittons Hill to Tuesday’s big 9-1 thrashing of Rendezvous in their group opener of the Williams Equipment Preseason Football Cup at Friendship.

It was a huge contrast to the earlier game in which UWI Blackbirds staged a dramatic comeback, only to fall short in a 3-2 loss to Silver Sands.

Rendezvous were never close, though, having surrendered two quick strikes to the lanky Richards, who scored in the fourth and 15th minutes to put Brittons Hill ahead 2-0.

Akiel Smith netted mere four minutes later and Romario Small made the score 4-0 as early as the 26th minute.

Nicholas Bynoe eventually pulled one back for Rendezvous on the other side of halftime but Coppin restored the four-goal lead in the 70th minute before Dwayne Stanford scored just one minute later.

Six-foot Travis Coppin then hit two goals within four minutes of each other before Coppin scored at the end of regulation.

Earlier, Sylvester Small and Troy Johnson put Silver Sands up 2-0 and Shamari Mark pulled one back for UWI in the 52nd.

But Johnson scored mere moments later to give Silver Sands what seemed an unassailable 3-1 cushion.

However, UWI threatened late after Mark netted again in the 82nd. It was a case of too little too late as UWI ran out of time.

The tournament continues tonight at Ellerton Playing Field, St George. (JM)
