The Government has given its assurances that the Barbados potable water is safe for drinking.

This was revealed today during a joint press conference held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health, Barbados Water Authority and the Barbados Tourism Product Authority. The assurance came from Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Maxine McClean.

Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Anton Best explained that the bacteria which were found in elevated levels during testing at US Embassy residences were not bacteria that are of public health concern – namely salmonella, E.coli or coliform.

As a result, Government is going to be working with the US Embassy to conduct testing to determine the exact bacteria which were found. (AD)
