Barbadians will have the opportunity to learn about ten local medicinal plants when the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Water Resource Management hosts its field day, next Wednesday, January 31.
It will take place at the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute’s (CARDI) Facility, Central Agronomic Research Station, located on the compound of the Ministry’s Graeme Hall, Christ Church offices, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
There will be presentations on Cerasee, Gullyroot, Christmas Bush, Cure for All, Mosquito Bush, Wonder of the World, Aloe, Vervain, Seed Under the Leaf and Periwinkle. There will also be a session by entomologist Ian Gibbs on organic insecticides.
The objectives of the field day on local traditional medicinal plants include examining agro-business opportunities; educating the public about these plants; and teaching them about organic methods of dealing with pests. (BGIS)
