There has been an increase in the number of fake sexual enhancement drugs on the market.

That is according to president of the Barbados Pharmaceutical Society (BSA), Derek Catlyn, who told the Saturday Sun that several of these products used mostly by men had been deemed illegal in several countries.

Catlyn said that based on his research on at least one of the knock-off drugs being sold here had been condemned by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in United States, which warned against using it, citing safety reasons.

The drug Chao Jimengnan is advertised as “Super Powerful Man Tablets” and is said to contain sildenafil, the active ingredient in the prescription drug Viagra.

“This undeclared ingredient may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs, such as nitroglycerin, and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. People with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease often take nitrates,” the FDA cautioned.

Catlyn said authorities in Australia had also advised consumers not to use Chao Jimengnan. (RB)
