Track Attack today

Date:

Tremaine Ford-Catwell will be calling on his Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Circuit (CMRC) knowledge when he suits up for Track Attack of the Barbados Auto Racing League (BARL) at Bushy Park today.

The action will start at noon and run until 6 p.m. and is the first of a series of similar events organised by BARL as it turns up its drivers for their season later this year.

Forde-Catwell, son of former group champion Greg “Cheezie” Catwell, will be at the wheel of the Hilti/Rezults Auto/Marks Auto Spares/CCT Paints/Cheese Autoglass Finish/Castrol Nissan 1200 in which he gave a good account of himself at home and in Guyana last year, but will have his hands full as drivers such as champion driver Andre Walcott as well as Devin McCarthy, Stephen Elliott, Ryan Wood, Shea Woodroofe, Damien Sobers, Fred Campbell and Ripley Greene are down to face the starter.

BARL chairman Stefan Hinds told SUNSPORT that he was expecting a large turnout for the event as members have been playing a wait-and-see-game as the year turned.

“We have not been racing for four years and we will be using the track days to gauge our members’ personal readiness and that of their machines, for the rigours of a racing season. We will have another two track days before a decision is made, but we are taking it one step at a time,” Hinds said.

The event, Track Attack 2K18 has also attracted veteran drivers such as Peter Ullyett and Richard Cummins in two Hyundai cars from sponsors Courtesy Garage.

Ullyett is fresh from the club’s track day at Bushy Park last month, but it would be the first event for Cummins. They will be up against drivers such as Danny Croney, Junior Benskin, Tyrone Martindale, Samuel Mayers, Merton Holder, Steve King, Jason Harewood and former karting champion Christian Hinds. (TT)
