Priests delight

They weren’t preaching, but they were spreading the Gospel and making a joyful noise unto the Lord nonetheless.

On Sunday night, Anglican priests from across the island came together at The Church of Christ the King in Rock Dundo, St Michael, for the second annual Singing Priests Concert.

Not even intermittent showers could put a damper on the lively mood that spread across the church.

The event, used as a fundraising activity for the churches’ music ministry, had about 500 in attendance who sang praises unto God and enjoyed fellowship with each other for just over three hours.

Priests, both men and women, such as Reverends John Rogers, Bernard Been, Coleridge Darlington, Angela Phillips and host minister Luther Johnson, showed off their skills in singing and acting to a very appreciative audience.

In the first half, Been, of Holy Cross Anglican Church in Society, St John, brought the house down with his rendition of Leaning On The Everlasting Arms. He had the audience singing and rocking along with him. He even added in a freestyle rap piece for good measure and the crown loved every bit of it.

Darlington, of St Thomas Parish Church, showed off his versatility. He thrilled the audience in song with Precious Lord and followed with up with a nice piece on the harmonica.

Johnson and Cleveland Inniss also gave a well-received rendition of People Need The Lord, with Johnson doing the vocals while Inniss expertly backed him on the saxophone.

There was also a modelling segment, dance and a dramatic presentation. (DB)
