Elizabeth (Purple) marched to their third consecutive title at St Michael’s Inter-House Track And Field Championships at the National Stadium yesterday.

They triumphed by a 77-point margin after gaining a total of 924 points. Victoria (Red) were second with 847, Anne (Yellow) third with 739 and Boadecia (Blue) fourth with 505 points.

Elizabeth athletes smashed seven records on the day – four individual and three relay.

In the Under-17 Boys’ Division, Darian Clarke ran record-breaking times of 10.94 and 21.97 seconds in the 100 metres and 200 metres, respectively.

The impressive Ashlee Lowe won the Senior Girls’ 200 metres in a record time of 24.28 seconds, erasing Leah Barker’s 2014 mark of 24.72 seconds.

Samaiya Dell, in just her first year at the St Michael School, set a record in the Under-13 Girls’ long jump, leaping 5.08 metres in the sand pit.

However, Elizabeth were unable to hold on to the top individual titles, as Anne House’s Seth Edwards and Chelsea Lawrence were named victor and victrix ludorum, respectively.

In the Senior Boys’ Division, Edwards won the cricket ball throw and shot put with efforts of 14.92 metres and 14.22 metres, respectively. He placed second in the 800 metres in two minutes, 18.68 seconds and in the 1 500 metres (5:30.12) and third in the 200 metres (23.44 seconds), 400 metres (54.07 seconds) and javelin (34.72 metres).

Lawrence won no events but placed second in five: the 800 metres in three minutes, 15.60 seconds, the high jump (1.30 metres), long jump (4.26 metres), cricket ball throw (11.24 metres) and the shot put (9.17 metres).

Kyle Gale of Anne also performed outstandingly, winning the Boys’ 15-16 title and breaking two records. He set new marks in the 400 metres of 50.28 seconds and the triple jump of 11.97 metres.

Gale also won the high jump in 1.70 metres, collected silver in the Under-17 Boys’ 100 metres in 11.06 seconds and also ran under the record time in the 200 metres in 22.05 seconds.

The Under-13 Girls’ competition was intriguing, with former NAPSAC rivals Skye Spencer-Layne, Samaiya Dell and Jahzara Holford meeting up.

Boadecia’s Spencer-Layne dominated the track, winning the 100 metres in 13.28 seconds, the 200 in 26.94 seconds and 400 metres in one minute, 05.64 seconds.

Dell took silver in the 100 and 200, while Holford took silver in the 400 metres. (RG)
