LYNCH House (Green), with newcomers Daniel Duncan and Chloe Lucas, won the Christ Church Foundation sports for the first time in seven years with 708 points at the National Stadium, yesterday.
First-former Duncan was the Under-13 Boys’ champion, while Lucas and teammate Rosette Hoyte gave Lynch valuable points in the Under-20 Girls’ division.
Senior victrix ludorum Hannah Connell and first-former Kelescia Downes spearheaded the efforts of Inniss House (Blue), who finished second on 678 points ahead of Talma (Purple) with 647 points. Fourth and fifth positions went to Wellington (Red) and Skeete (Yellow) with 583 and 534 points, respectively.
Lucas triumphed in the 400 in 58.16 seconds from Connell, who rebounded to emphatically win the 100 in a new record time of 12.17 seconds and the 200 in 24.65.
Duncan, last year’s NAPSAC victor ludorum when he led Bayley’s to the boys’ title, won the 100 (13.65), 200 (26.94) and 400 (1:06.51), but Talma’s Kobe Hutson was the junior victor ludorum.
Like Duncan, Hutson was a triple winner on the day, taking the 100 (12.38) from Lynch’s Shay Prescod (12.57) and 200 (25.15) from Talma’s Dimitri Bourne (25.89). Hutson’s most dominant performance came when he slammed the field in 400 to set a new record time of 55.98 seconds.
It was one of eight records set at this year’s sports where the honours were shared in most of the other age groups.
Wellington’s Brandon Hoyte (10.92) won the day’s closest race, pipping Laquan Trotman (10.97) on the line in the Under-20 Boys’ 100. Both Josiah Atkins and Shashamani Kellman sat out the sports with injuries.
Hoyte was beaten in the 200 by Skeete’s Delano Wickham who won in 21.72 seconds after earlier capturing the 400 in 48.77 from Raheem Taitt-Best (50.32).
The action among the Under-17 Girls was riveting even without the injured Sarah Belle. Talma’s Leilani Haddock, after finishing a close second in 12.69 to Lynch’s Jaliyah Denny (12.66) in the 100, came back to win the 200 (25.41) from Denny (26.08). Wellington’s Kyla Cummins (60.41) won the 400, with Haddock (1:01.89) second and Wellington’s Dominique Wood (1:02.93) third.
CARIFTA Games’ qualifier Wood also won the long jump, which was contested yesterday with a best leap of 5.31 metres. Talma’s Ondre Callender (6.81) was the Under-20 Boys’ long jump champion, with Anderson Greaves withdrawing from the event.
Inniss’ John-Pierre Hinds did the sprint double among the Under-17 Boys winning the 100 (11.35) and 200 (22.95) while senior victor ludorum Nathan Crawford-Wallis, who had swept the jumps and throws held off housemate Saviola Thomas to take the 400 in 55.92 seconds.
The battle was keen among the Under-13 and Under-15 Girls. Lynch’s Shonte Morris (13.58) captured the 100 from Downes, who triumphed in the 200 (27.58) from Morris and took the 400 (1:07.31) from Lynch’s Deniesha Forde (1:09.11).
Kayla Kellman-Wall triumphed in the Under-15 Girls 400 (1:04.51) and 200 (28.22), but Lynch’s Charian Alexander (13.96) prevailed in the 100 from Talma’s Kiara Hunte (14.08). (EZS)
