With the preliminary round of the Williams Equipment Preseason Cup all wrapped up, the focus falls this week to action in the lower leagues as all teams have something to prove. Seeking promotion from their respective tiers, games in Division 1, 2 and 3 all got off the ground within the last week.

After finishing sixth last year in Division 1, St Andrew Lions have gotten off to a good start in Zone 1, winning their opening game. They defeated Sunrise Ballers 3-1 through goals by Sadrian Ward (38th) Damonn Ifill (40th) and Zico Greaves (59th). Damian Edwards got Sunrise Ballers’ consolation in the 60th minute.

The newly-promoted Potential Ballers also gained three points after beating Haynesville 1-0 through a last-ditch 91st-minute goal from Darrin Layne. Only one game was played in Zone 2 with Youth Milan and Bagatelle drawing 1-1.

In Division 2, Barbados Youth Service gave Police Sports Club a stern welcome to the league as they handed down a 4-2 beating to the new kids on the block. Ishaem Ellis, Kenrick Ward and Codeve Sobers with a brace were on target for the Youth Service, while Nicholas Gibson and Roger Knight scored for Police.

ATI Collection Central League Spartans had a hot start as they beat Hothersal Turning 2-0 with both goals coming from Shaquon Barton.

Division 3 saw several matches being postponed but that did not stop the Barbados Defence Force Sports Club from marching to a 4-1 win over Friendship Youth and Sports Club. The soldiers were relentless as Rommel Griffith, Jaire Quintyne, Kemar Corbin and Nicholas Collymore all rocked the nets.

The action continues this week at various venues. See the BFA website at www.barbadosfa.com<http://www.barbadosfa.com> for fixtures and venues. (BFA)
