B’ball Premier League going online

The Premier League is coming to an electronic device near you.

Local basketball looks set to improve its social media presence after the Barbados Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) entered a partnership with Extreme Services Inc. to stream games live for the 2018 season.

Interim BABA president Francis Williams made the announcement during Wednesday’s opening ceremony for Premier League at title sponsors, Co-operators General Insurance.

“Those games will be advertised and promoted and that’s another initiative that we’ve undertaken. This partnership will enable us to do a whole lot more in relation to our social media presence.

“It will give us a lot more footage to work with, a greater footprint and a greater presence in the market,” reasoned Williams.

“We’re very happy to have them on board and look forward to the opportunities that they present for us this year.

“Probably within another month and a half, two months we will have a new website.

“It gives us a little more flexibility outside of the existing one and it puts us in a better situation to present the game, present our story and better market ourselves going forward,” he added.

It’s just one of a handful of new initiatives set to be rolled out this season, including the return of last season’s popular Dash For Cash that saw fans competing for $10 000.

That grand prize has now increased to $15 000 this year as the BABA expects to garner additional sponsorship across its six different leagues.

It stands as very welcome news for an association that has managed to attract both Co-operators General Insurance and No.1 Beauty Supplies and Beauty Exchange as title sponsors over the last five years.

“From a general point view there are things of note we are excited about. Our sponsorship sales this year, we are being a little bit more aggressive. Even in a market as depressed as the one we are currently experiencing here on the island we anticipate we should have a bit of growth,” Williams said.

“We attacked it a little bit more aggressively this year and the response suggests that we should have increased sponsorship throughout the 2018 season throughout the different competitions and leagues we have this year.” (JM)
