Jahmar Hamilton struck a century and Raymon Reifer fell five short of the landmark to put West Indies “A” in a commanding position against England Lions on the second day of their four-day “Test” in Jamaica yesterday.

The 27-year-old Hamilton made an even hundred and featured in a century partnership with Reifer to pilot the hosts to a satisfying first innings total of 422, in reply to the Lions’ modest 145 at Sabina Park.

Their efforts overshadowed a six-wicket haul from left-arm spinner Jack Leach.

Trailing by 277, England Lions closed the day on 34 without loss, facing a mammoth battle to avoid a second successive defeat.

Resuming on 20 with West Indies “A” on 159 for four, Hamilton extended his fifth-wicket partnership with Shane Dowrich to 72 before the latter fell for 43.

Hamilton and 26-year-old Reifer teamed up to add 102 for the sixth wicket as the hosts moved into the ascendancy.

The stand was broken when Hamilton departed with the total on 302 for six after an innings in which he faced 187 balls and hit 17 fours.

Rahkeem Cornwall chipped in with 25 while helping Reifer in a seventh wicket partnership of 49.

As Reifer approached his century, he was running out of partners and he was last for 95 that was made from 179 balls and contained eight fours and two sixes.

Leach, who dismissed Reifer, finished with six for 138 off 41.4 overs. (HG)
