Richard Grazette is running away with the Lodge Road Members Draughts Tournament.

Despite falling on the knife of Nathaniel “Thani” Grosvenor for his only defeat, the former national champion Grazette goes into Wednesday’s final round with an unassailable 31 points.

Grazette lost 1-0 to the out-of-form Grosvenor on Sunday, but leads Junior “Post” Walrond by four points. Grazette plays bottom-of-the table Eric Rice at Best Road, Christ Church, from 7 p.m.

Walrond will play Sam Marshall, while Grosvenor plays his student Mark Barnett. Barnett struggled earlier, but has rebounded well in one of the most competitive tournaments in recent times.

Barnett added Darwin Lorde to his bag of victims, securing a 1-0 victory on Sunday, while the other Barnett brother, Matthew, has played well and defeated veteran “Thani” Grosvenor 1-0.

There has also been steady improvement from Ian Callender, one of three St Martin’s players, and Hallam Hope.

Like Mark Barnett, Whitfield “Festus” Robinson is a come-back kid. He shares third place with Barnett and Lorde on 25 points.

Robinson served Walrond his solitary loss, 1-0 with a Wagram line last Sunday. (PR/EZS)
