Three in a row for Skinner

IT WAS so nice Skinner did it thrice.

The superstars definitely shone bright again yesterday after Skinner House easily won a third straight inter-house title during Alexandra’s Sports day at the National Stadium.

Led by promising sprinter Shadae Worrell, the Skinner Superstars (Turquoise) beat their closest rivals by more than 100 points after leading the meet from pillar to post to end with 890.2 points.

O’neal Diamonds (Yellow), who accounted for three division champions including victrix ludorum Shonita Brome, came a distant second on 783.4 points, while Frederick Spartans (Red) finished further back with 641.

Lysons Green Machine (565) and Arnold Blue Thunder (539.4) placed fourth and fifth respectively.

It was just another championship-winning performance from Skinner’s athletes, particularly Worrell, who did the sprint treble en route to capturing the Under-15 Girls’ division title.

Leaving the competition in her wake, Worrell won the 100 (13.06 seconds), 200 (26.61) and 400 metres (1:04.33) after taking the javelin and discus events to amass 62 points.

Yet that had nothing on Brome, who was even more dominant in the Under-20 category with an astounding meet-best 72 points.

The CARIFTA hopeful won the 200 (27.47), 400 (1:03.62), 800 (2:49.70), 1 500 and shot put and placed second in the 100 and javelin. She also added a bronze medal in the discus too.

Frederick House’s Agyei Phillips-Dectiville was similarly prolific following a victor ludorum performance that was studded with wins in the 100 (11.50), 200 (23.08), 400 (51.63), 800 (2:16.93) and the 1 500 metres of the Under-20 Boys’ division.

He placed second in the shot put and third in the discus to end the day with 64 points.

Brandon Downes of Lysons was just four points adrift in the Under-15 category, having won the 200, 400 and long jump to put up 60 points for the Green Machine.

The Under-15 king didn’t end there either as he came second in the 100 and 800 after finishing third in the shot put.

Brome’s housemates Kristen Sobers and Renacko Belgrave swept the Under-17 titles with 39 and 36 points respectively.

Belgrave won the 200 and discus before finishing second in the 100 and shot put while Sobers came first in the long jump and placed second in the shot put.

She added third-place showings in the 200, 400 and 800 metres.

Lysons completed a sweep of their own too, as Dontae Cumberbatch and Dania Lewis accounted for the age-group titles in the Under-13 division.

Lewis ran away with the 100, 200, 800 and long jump events on the girls’ side while Cumberbatch had a number of podium finishes including a victory in the 100 metres.
