Barbados Cadet Corps Celebrating next week

For 114, years the Barbados Cadet Corps has been helping to shape the lives of young people and it will take the spotlight soon when several activities are held to celebrate Cadet Week.

Learning To Do Today For A Successful Tomorrow, will be the theme of the week, which will begin on Sunday, March 11, with a service at the Whitepark Wesleyan Holiness Church, Whitepark Road, St Michael, at 10 a.m.

Chief of Staff, Colonel Glyne Grannum, will take the salute, while Corporal Rashon Griffith of Alexandra School will deliver the sermonette. The Barbados Cadet Corps’ Chaplain, Reverend Esther Willoughby, will be the officiating Minister. Parents of cadets are invited to attend.  

On Wednesday, March 14, historian Trevor Marshall, who is one of the cadets of 1966, will deliver the lecture: Cadetting and its Impact on Barbadian Society. It will be held at the Hugh Springer Auditorium, Harmony Hall, St Michael, beginning at 7 p.m.

The activities will climax on Saturday, March 17, with a sports day at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex, University of the West Indies, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cadets, officers and parents are expected to compete in various events, including fun activities.

Present and former cadets, officers and the public are invited to attend the lecture and the sports day.

The Barbados Cadet Corps is a national youth organisation based in the secondary school system. Membership is open to children between the ages of 11 and 19.  Its aim is to complement the academic curriculum of schools through the use of discipline, exposure to challenging activities and national duty in the building of self-respect, self-confidence and good character traits in the youth.
