Some Transport Board workers are now moving with the Unity Workers’ Union (UWP).

The workers have opted to join with this small but vocal union, having parted ways with the Barbados Workers’ Union.

Head of Unity, Caswell Franklyn, is reporting that the Transport Board has recognised his union, which now represents 48 of the staff there.

Franklyn attributed their move to a post in which he pointed out that the state-owned entity was one of the few Government entities where workers were not entitled to gratuity once they retire.

“They have sought this union out because they are not getting satisfaction from the unions that were representing them since 1955,” he said.

“You can work for the Transport Board for 30 to 35 years and then at the end of that, you go home with your last pay package. All other Government workers get gratuity, pension in a lump sum. (TG)
